Walter Floyd and Zollie Cole traveled to Kalamazoo in May for the The Michigan Youth Arts Festival at Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo)! This event is noted as the only event of its kind in the United States. In MYAF's 51st year of existence at WMU, following a multitude of competitions, the state's top artists in the areas of fine art, vocal & instrumental music, dance, theater, film making, poetry and so forth are highlighted in one huge festival event at the end of the school year. Parents and students gather to stroll through incredible exhibits and demonstrations and listen to a multitude of fine performances.
This year two of Lincoln High School's seniors, Zollie Cole and Walter Floyd, won positions in the MSVMA All-State Honors choir. For their hard work and dedication, they enjoyed the incredible memorable experience of performing under the baton of Internationally known composer and conductor, Z. Randall Stroope in the 2013 MSVMA All-State Honors Choir. Our congratulations to these two LHS seniors! As they graduate from LHS, in the Fall Walter will be attending the University of Virginia and Zollie will be attending Eastern Michigan University.
This year's State Solo and Ensemble Festival produced outstanding scores for Lincoln High School's participants. Perfect performance scores (Superiors) were awarded to large ensembles, Vocal Essence, Men of Lincoln; soloist, Walter Floyd; and Trillium (Bria Woods, Laura Wynne, Walter Floyd). Split Dimensions, Emily Bamrick, and The Treble Tones (Freshmen women) Excellent ratings. As a bonus, Trillium was selected for consideration for the Michigan Youth Arts Festival! Split Dimensions received cheers and a standing ovation at the ACDA-MI Women's Inter-generational Choral Festival as they joined Carillon Women's Chorale at Big Rapids HS with Michigan's top High School, Community and University Women's Choirs on Saturday, March 23rd. Special thanks to Virginia Kerwin, Director of VocaLyrica, for their warm and hospitable hosting of this event!
Congratulations to Lincoln's four large ensembles (Vocal Essence, Split Dimensions, Men of Lincoln, Treble Tones), two soloists (Emily Bamrick and Walter Floyd) and our small ensemble (Lincoln Trillium), who performed at Chelsea High School on Saturday, February 9th. All Lincoln events were absolutely thrilled after receiving Superior ratings for their performances. Judges were full of praise for their showing of fine musicianship, outstanding diction, contrast in dynamics and close attention to detail as each event performed two contrasting pieces of literature. As a result of this District S&E success, all events will work with Mrs. Nevins to develop a plan for the State Solo and Ensemble event, which take place at Walled Lake Central High School in April. Congratulations LHS Singers!

Parents be sure to login frequently to http://lhschoirs.com for updates and notifications. The choir calendar has been updated as of August 31 and will be continually updated as new events and changes arise! Since we have a master calendar for the first marking period, all non-MSVMA and non-MSBOA events are tentative for the remainder of the year. Once contract negotiations are settled and a master calendar is agreed upon, we will be able to confirm 2nd-4th marking period events, breaks, in-service dates, exams, etc. Students will be asked to utilize this website for 24-hour access to assignments, event notifications & instructions, calendar updates and announcements. Members of the community will find our calendar helpful in planning for their listening pleasure throughout the year! Thank you, in advance, for any and all support provided to Lincoln High School Choirs for the coming school year!
