LHS Choir Alum, Matt Giraud Wins Top 5 Position on American Idol!

MATT GIRAUD, LINCOLN HS CHOIR ALUM progressed through to the top 5 on the 2009 American Idol!

WHAT AN AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR MATT!! HE's SURE TO GET HIS CAREER LOFTED WITH THIS ACCOMPLISHMENT! THE STUDENTS OF LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL CHOIRS CONGRATULATE MATT G AND LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR NEXT VISIT, MATT!!!! THE 2009 IDOL SUMMER TOUR WAS FABULOUS!

Matt Giraud graduated from Lincoln High school in 2003 and from WMU in 2007. He claims K-zoo as his home town, but we know Matt's roots take him right back here to Augusta Twp and to Lincoln Consolidated Schools!! Matt is not only recognized for his flexible vocals, he is also identified as one of the "dueling pianos." Interestingly, with no prior experience at the piano, Matt began his piano endeavors as a senior right here in Mrs. Nevins' piano classroom. In a recent conversation with Mrs Nevins, Matt reminded KNev of her recognition that he "has the personality and the talent to be a star!" Matt seems pretty determined to fulfill that vision!

Many of Lincoln's students and alums are familiar with Matt's passion for his music. Shortly out of high school, Matt began performing Contemporary Christian vocals as the opening act for headliners with huge audiences in churches and sports arenas. Following graduation, Matt provided CDs for Mrs. Nevins to sell on his behalf. Recognizing that Matt's a natural performer, Mrs. Nevin is convinced that Matt's nerves will stand in his stead on the Idol stage while other more rattled opponents forget their lyrics.

On Facebook, LHS Choir alums have come "out of the woodwork" to contact Mrs. Nevins with enthusiasm for Matt! Over 1,000 Facebook friends have joined the group "Vote Matt Giraud for American Idol!" Of course anyone can show their support to Matt by joining the group! Be sure to listen to Matt's Idol video clips posted on this page!

His "White Chocolate" group made a very upbeat presentation with Matt also adding percussive vocal backup! Matt's rendition of "Georgia (On My Mind)" reveals awesome vocal flexibility and would have surely won the vote of the song's original artist/pianist, Ray Charles. Both judges and audience praised his audition with cheers and a standing ovation that night!

Since his graduation, Matt has dropped by his old choir classroom for an occasional visit with Mrs. Nevins and to croon a tune for the students. He recently promised KNev he'll visit again soon! Very possibly his next visit will allow Lincoln to personally congratulate him on winning his spotlight on the Idol challenge! Mrs. Nevins' son, Dana, lives in SanDiego, CA and they've been pondering the possibility of attending one of the American Idol shows to support Matt! You can do this, Matt--go get em, kiddo!

2008-2009 LHS Choir Highlights!

Choir Trip to Washington, D.C.

This trip celebrated Abraham Lincoln's Bi-centennial! Lincoln Choirs represented the state of Michigan and performed with other Lincoln choirs under the direction of Mrs. Nevins on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial with 8 other choirs!

Split Dimensions in EMU Concert

Lincoln's Split Dimensions were invited to perform in concert with EMU's University and Chamber Choirs in December, 2008. The show featured performances by all individual choirs as well as a mass choir performance of "Joshua Fit Battle of Jericho" by Moses Hogan! This was certainly a memorable performance for our singers!

Split Dimensions Performed at Michigan's own Governor Granholm's Residence!

Members of Split Dimensions traveled to Lansing by invitation of Governor Jennifer Granholm to perform for her Holiday Staff Gathering at her beautiful residence! The students caroled as guests arrived and were applauded after performing a festive selection for her guests! Following the performance, Governor Granholm was full of praise for their outstanding performance and a photo was taken of Split Dimensions with the Governor. Each singer will receive a letter of recognition from the Governor and a copy of their photograph at their Spring Awards Banquet.

New LHS singers for 2009-2010!

Parents will want to logon frequently to http://lhschoirs.com for updates and notifications. The choir calendar has been updated as of August 31 and will be continually updated as new events and changes arise! Since we have a master calendar for the first marking period, all non-MSVMA and non-MSBOA events are tentative for the remainder of the year. Once contract negotiations are settled and a master calendar is agreed upon, we will be able to confirm 2nd-4th marking period events, breaks, in-service dates, exams, etc. Students will be asked to utilize this website for 24-hour access to assignments, event notifications & instructions, calendar updates and announcements. Members of the community will find our calendar helpful in planning for their listening pleasure throughout the year! Thank you, in advance, for any and all support provided to Lincoln High School Choirs for the coming school year!
